Description: | 33 ms letters (76pp) and 5 telegrams written by him to his wife, August 1915 - January 1916 and November 1917, during his service with the Cheshire Regiment as Brigade Major, 159th Brigade (to November 1917) and GSO2, 53rd Division, MEF and GSO1, 11th Division in France, covering in good detail the movements of the 159th Brigade following their landing at Suvla Bay, Gallipoli (August 1915), the assault on Scimitar Hill (August 1915), and the evacuation of Allied troops from Anzac and Suvla (December 1915), including good details of trench conditions, his duties and daily routine, comments on the low standard of officers and discipline of the troops, and descriptions of the landings, fighting and evacuation; together with ts transcriptions of the letters.
