Description: | Memoir (126pp ts) describing his enlistment into the Russian Army at Grodno as a private in November 1914, his drafting to the 2nd Regiment of Finnish Rifles, Finnish Corps in East Prussia (December 1914 - April 1915), training at an officers' school near Petrograd and commissioning as a Third Lieutenant (April - June 1915), his posting to the 275th Reserve Marching Battalion in Brest (July - ? September 1915) and transfer to the 2nd Battalion, 78th Navaginsky Regiment (20th Infantry Division) (? September 1915) when he was wounded and had an arm amputated, his recovery in the military hospital at Bialystok (September 1915 - June 1916) and posting to a convalescent battalion in Moscow (June - ? July 1916), before returning to his Regiment at the front at Brody (? July - November 1916), his transfer to the ammunition supply battalion of the 20th Artillery Brigade (November 1916) and promotion to Second Lieutenant (May 1917); following the demobilisation of the Battalion he joined the 1st Polish Corps, Polish Army (December 1917) and after the Revolution escaped across Russia to Archangel where a British force had landed (August 1918); with comments on the Russian revolutions of March and October 1917 and life in Moscow under the new regime, his Polish nationalism and the chaos in Poland (June 1918), trench life and the heavy casualties in his units, a plan to shoot him by his own men, and his travels in Soviet Russia.
