Description: | Notebook (144pp) containing; ms notes on the geography and military history of Mesopotamia and an ms diary compiled by an unidentified soldier in 1/4th Battalion, Hampshire Regiment (33rd Indian Brigade, later 30th Indian Brigade, 12th Indian Division, later 35th Indian Brigade, 14th Indian Division) giving a somewhat confused account of his service principally in India and Mesopotamia, 1914 - 1916, covering briefly his mobilisation, embarkation for India, October 1914 and subsequent tour of duty there at Poona, Kirkee and Rawalpani, November 1914 - March 1915, his journey to Basra and later participation in operations in Arabistan including the guarding of enemy POWs until he returned (?) sick to India in July 1915 where he remained until May 1916 when he came back to Basra, took part in patrols, guard duties and skirmishes north of the city until he fell sick, eventually evacuated to India in November 1916; also an ms letter dated January 1926 from an ex-soldier if the 1/5th Battalion East Kent Regiment who found the notebook.
