Description: | A ts account (18pp, written May 1919) giving brief details of enlisting in the 3rd (Reserve) Battalion, London Rifle Brigade (September 1916), training, arriving in France (January 1917), transferring to No 3 Company, 16th Battalion (Pioneer), Royal Irish Rifles, in Belgium, with details of his movements and duties, digging trenches, salvage work on the railways, and repairing roads, based in the Messines Ridge sector (February - July 1917), the Ypres sector (July - September 1917), the Cambrai sector (September 1917 - February 1918), the Ypres sector (April - June 1918), and including details of the German Spring Offensive (March 1918), until taken to hospital after falling unconscious due to a heart disorder (June 1918), convalescence and transfer to 270th Prisoners of War Company, with details of his duties, and his discharge (March 1919).
