Description: | Photocopies of ts operational reports, ts diary extracts, ts letters to his wife, a ms letter to his mother and a brief ts career summary (4pp), written while serving as a Major with Calcutta Light Horse (4th Cavalry Division), 38th Central India Horse from March 1915 (1st Division from September 1915), and appointed Assistant Provost Marshal, 1st Cavalry Division, December 1915 and 24th Division, February 1918, on the Western Front, January 1915 - December 1918, describing the Battle of Neuve Chapelle (March 1915), the Second Battle of Ypres (April 1915), life near La Bassee (July 1915) and in No Man's Land (September 1915), the Battle of Loos (September 1915), two executions (April and July 1916), the handling of prisoners (July 1917) and, in particular, the Allied retreat on the St Quentin sector (March - April 1918), the final week of the war and the advance through Belgium (November 1918) and the entry into Germany (December 1918).
