Description: | Five ms pocket diaries and ts copy (130pp) August 1915 - January 1919, kept during his service in France with 1/7th (Robin Hood) Battalion, The Sherwood Foresters (Nottingham and Derbyshire Regiment) (139th Brigade, 46th Division), in the line at Fonquevillers, March - July 1916, including the battalion's abortive attack on Gommecourt on the First Day of the Somme, then Bretoncourt, July - October 1916, back at Fonquevillers, December 1916 - March 1917, in England on sick leave March 1917 - March 1918, and then with the 7th Battalion, The Sherwood Foresters (178th Brigade, 59th Division) facing the German advance at Kemmel Wood in April 1918, and finally with 1st Battalion, The Sherwood Foresters (24th Brigade, 8th Division) in the line at Bailleul and St Amand, September - November 1918, and in Tournai, November 1918 - January 1919, together with 18 ms letters home January 1916 - January 1919, including two letters relating to the First Day of the Battle of the Somme, and ms notebook (119pp) kept whilst attending a Musketry Instructor's course at the Humber Garrison School of Musketry in February 1918.
