Description: | 39 ms letters (141pp) written by him to his parents (January 1915 - June 1916) during his service with 2nd (City of London) Battalion, London Regiment (Royal Fusiliers) (86th Brigade, 29th Division), covering his embarkation for Malta and duties there, his landing at Gallipoli (October 1915), the evacuation to Egypt (January 1916), and posting to the Western Front (May 1916) including details of service conditions in Malta, the Dardanelles, and Egypt, his observations on the nature of warfare at Gallipoli, his first experiences of the trenches (November 1915) and taking part in an advance against the Turks, the evacuation from the peninsula, his guard duties against local tribes at Beri Mazar, Egypt, and his attachment to the Queen's Westminster Rifles following the break up of the battalion on moving to France (May 1916); together with a ts transcription of these and other letters, 40 letters (December 1914 - June 1916) made by his parents shortly after his death in action in June 1916.
