Description: | 158 ms letters and 5 postcards written to his parents in Willesdon, London (August 1914 - September 1918) during his service at Gallipoli and on the Western Front until his death in September 1918, covering his training with the 7th Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment (33rd Brigade, 11th Division) in Lincolnshire and Surrey, his posting to the Dardanelles (July 1915) and subsequent hospitalisation, posting to the 8th Battalion South Staffordshire Regiment (51st Brigade, 17th Division) in France and action at Arras, service with the 7th Entrenching Battalion (April 1918) and the 10th Battalion Essex Regiment (53rd Brigade, 18th Division) (May 1918); including few details of his duties or experience in action but comments on the trenches at Gallipoli, weather conditions, the fighting on the Somme (July 1916), and the effect upon him of the death of his pals in action.
