Description: | Ms diary (107pp), with ts transcription (37pp), kept during his service as a Private with the 6th Battalion Leinster Regiment (attached to 29th Brigade, 10th Division), 9 January 1915 - 14 January 1916, noting his enlistment on 22 March 1915, the journey to the Gallipoli Peninsula via Malta and Egypt on the SS CAMERONIAN and then in the RTS KAROA (14 April - 8 May 1915), the intensity of the fighting and the number of casualties he witnessed whilst stationed in the trenches as well as his daily routine, rations and living conditions, ending with his embarkation to Mudros on 6 January 1916; together with ts transcriptions of his training notes (5pp), a short descriptive ms account (6pp), with ts transcription (6pp), written in October 1917 revealing how he spent his leave sightseeing in Cairo, Egypt, and 12 photographs including images of Burnett with his comrades.
