Description: | Nooruddin Ahmed was a member of the Bangladeshi Youth League in the 1970s. Here, in conversation with Jamil Iqbal, Charlie Sen, and Riza Momin of the Swadhinata Trust, he recalls the early development of the Bangladeshi community in the Spitalfields area. When Mr Ahmed first arrived in 1969, the area was predominantly Jewish. However, members of the Jewish community were already moving away in large numbers. Following the War of Independence in Bangladesh in 1971, an increasing number of Bangladeshis moved to Spitalfields. | License: | http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.5/ | Publisher: | Bishopsgate Institute | Rights holder: | Swadhinata Trust | Subjects: | Migration and Citizenship Public services Communities Power and Politics Home and Family | Temporal: | 2006 | Source: | Bishopsgate Institute | Identifier: | http://www.20thcenturylondon.org.uk/rser... | Go to resource |
