Description: | A ms transcription (86pp) of a contemporary diary, covering the period December 1915 - October 1917 (transcribed while on home posting in late 1917 - early 1918), of his service as the Machine Gun Officer with the 10th Service Battalion (1st Hull) East Yorkshire Regiment (92nd Brigade, 31st Division), with details of embarking for and arriving in Egypt (December 1915), training, moving to France (March 1916) and service on the Western Front, with brief entries about his movements, Lewis guns, duties, casualties, dug-outs in the trenches, feelings on being shelled, together with more detailed entries about the Battle of the Somme from July 1916. Also includes a list of all the officers who embarked for Egypt in December 1915, and later pencil annotations giving some explanatory details and map references.
