Description: | Papers relating to his service in the 2/18th Battalion London Regiment (180th Brigade, 60th Division), including a pocket diary containing brief ms notes (81pp) about his service in France, January - November 1916, 13 ms letters (37pp, 4 incomplete), December 1915 - January 1918, covering his service in Salonika but mainly from early 1917 in Palestine, referring to the admiration of his men and their gift of a silver cigarette case, the award of the MC following the capture of Beersheba, and occasional bursts of optimism over the weather and country of Macedonia, together with 4 ms/ts letters of condolence (7pp), February - April 1918, from his commanding officers and a fellow soldier after his death in action near Jericho on 20 February 1918, 2 ts transcripts of speeches made by General Shea (GOC 60th Division) in December 1917, ms letter (3pp), 22 October 1915, from his brother George serving in Mesopotamia, ms letter from his mother (4pp), 28 January 1918, returned unopened after his death, pocket New Testament (612pp) and ms covering letter (1p), ts letter and inventory list (2pp) returning his kit, 25 June 1918, noting that the contents are `all badly damaged by immersion in sea water', and 5 1918 newspapers (STREATHAM NEWS, SHEPTON MALLET JOURNAL and THE TELEGRAPH), cuttings, photographs of him and his brother Lieutenant Alfred George Standrick, and other miscellaneous papers.
