Description: | 173 ms letters written to his parents in India, August 1914 - November 1919, while serving on the Western Front in which he discusses family matters and mutual friends, horses, the weather, and his living conditions, but also gives some details of his service as a 16 year old trumpeter with the 30th Brigade Ammunition Column (3rd Division) during the retreat from Mons and the Battle of the Marne, as a gunner in the Ypres Sector, February - April 1916, attached to Brigade HQ, and with the 130th (Howitzer) battery, RFA (3rd Division), May 1916 - January 1917, then after being commissioned in the field, with D Battery, 173 Brigade, RFA, at Ploegsteert, April 1917 C/173 Brigade RFA, and May - July 1917 with B/173 Brigade, RFA, followed by a home posting to the 1st Battery (Res) Brigade in Sussex, August - July 1918, and finally back in France initially with X/44 (Trench Mortar) Battery, July - August 1918, and finally with 6th Battery, 40th Brigade, RFA, August 1918 - May 1919.
