Description: | Two ms diaries (99pp and 27pp), with word processed transcription (40pp), written during his service with the Royal Engineers (September 1915 - September 1917) covering his enlistment and initial training as a motorcyclist despatch rider (September - December 1915) at Hertford, his embarkation for Alexandria (January 1916), posting to an Anzac corps at Ismailia (February - June 1916), passage to Marseilles and posting to the Western Front in the Bailleul region (July 1916), his attachment to a New Zealand division in the line at Armentieres (August 1916) and return to Bailleul (September 1916 - September 1917) until his release and return to the United Kingdom to work in munitions (September 1917), including notes on Zeppelin raids (October 1915), his duties as a despatch rider in Egypt, his first impressions of France and the action there, and his relief on being released from military service. Together with a biographical note (2pp) written by his daughter; an album of captioned photographs taken during his time in Egypt; and three photographs including images of him with his motorcycle.
