Description: | Detailed memoirs (346pp ts), written in the 1930s, of his training with 115th Brigade Ammunition Column (26th Division), December 1914 - September 1915, and service as a sergeant, briefly in France, and in Salonika, December 1915 - December 1916; his time in hospital suffering from malaria in Malta, January - July 1916, and in London, July - September 1916; and service in France again from January 1918 with 293rd Army Brigade RFA Ammunition Column (attached 51st Highland Division) in the Bapaume area until the German Spring offensive (attached 12th Division) in Belgium up to and after the Armistice until he was demobilised in April 1919. Bartlett was an enthusiastic and efficient NCO, and his well-written memoirs provide a valuable insight into ammunition column life.
