Description: | Ms transcription (81pp) of his letters home, ?to his wife, while commanding the 1st/4th Battalion Hampshire Regiment (30th Indian Brigade, 12th Indian Division), March 1915 - January 1916, including mobilisation and the voyage from India to Persia (March 1915), training at Basra (March - April 1915), then active service with the Indian Expeditionary Force 'D' in Mesopotamia (March 1915 - January 1916), being wounded during the capture of Nasiriyeh, on the River Euphrates (July 1915), his evacuation to India (August 1915) and convalescence in the Sassoon Hospital in Poona, India (August - September 1915), before returning to Basra (November 1915) rejoining his battalion at Amarah and participating in the Battle of Sheikh Saad (January 1916) in the attempt to relieve Kut, commenting in particular on the living conditions, climate, progress of the war, casualties, his own treatment in hospital and punitive expeditions against the Arabs and Turks; also a ts extract from a letter from 2nd Lieutenant J C Bucknill (1st/4th Hampshire Regiment TF) dated 26 July 1915 describing the capture of Nasiriyeh.
