Description: | Wordprocessed ts transcription (398pp) of a daily diary for 1917 recording his service with the 7th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment (39th Brigade, 13th Division) in Mesopotamia, including frequent references to the progress of the campaign on the Mesopotamian front, and descriptions of his voyage up the Tigris to the front line for the Battle of Kut (January - February 1917), evacuation with malaria to No 2 Royal Pindi British Hospital and Basra (February), his return to active service with guard and reconnaissance duties in camps at Mohammerah, Makinia, Lunette and Sundiyah, living conditions in the desert, training and the techniques of bomb throwing, the execution of two men for sleeping whilst on sentry duty, an outbreak of smallpox near the end of the year, and aerial bombing raids by Turkish aircraft.
