Description: | Ts memoir (22pp) compiled from articles written for the Journal of the Old Comrades Association, covering his service as an NCO with the 1/13th Battalion The London Regiment (25th Brigade, 8th Division until February 1916, then 168th Brigade, 56th Division) on the Western Front during the First World War, and including useful descriptions of his initial training in White City as a Territorial, involvement in action at Aubers Ridge (May 1915), on the Somme (September 1916), the Third Battle of Ypres (August - November 1917) and the Battle of the Albert (August 1918), experience as a military policeman at Bailleul and as a sniper, recreational activities including gambling, his organisation of a sergeant's mess at Bapaume, a short spell in a convalescent camp at Etaples and later his evacuation to a base hospital at Havre, the storming of an enemy trench which led to his award of the Military Medal, and his brief return to Britain for a course at the Hythe School of Musketry in Kent.
