Description: | Incomplete ms account (44pp), plus ts transcription (18pp), describing his experiences in Mesopotamia while serving with the 1/4th Battalion Dorsetshire Regiment (42nd Brigade), 1917 - 1918, with useful references to British attitudes to local Arabs and Gurkha soldiers, his journey by boat on the Tigris from Basra to Baghdad and details of an exhausting nighttime march together with an ms letter (4pp with 2pp ts transcript) to his wife, dated 8 August 1918, mentioning that he was in hospital again with dysentery and asking for local newspapers to be sent to him, a newspaper cutting from the LIVERPOOL ECHO dated 17 July 2004 about his wartime service, featuring quotes from his papers and additional information, a CD-ROM copy of the papers and two ms drafts (20pp and 25pp) of a short story apparently written by him during the First World War about two young officers, rivals in love, who die while serving on the Western Front.
