Description: | Ts transcription (32pp) of a diary / memoir written during and immediately after his service with the 6th Battalion Gloucestershire Regiment (144th Brigade, 48th Division) covering his mobilisation as a Territorial and initial posting to Chelmsford, Essex where he trained as a visual signaller, embarkation for France (March 1915) and cable-laying duties at Armentieres, his posting to the 48th Divisional Signal Company on the Gommecourt front (May 1915), constructing airlines at Bus-les-Artois (March 1916), enemy bombardments, the action during the First Day of the Battle of the Somme (1 July 1916), his duties at the signal station outside Albert (August 1916) and action around Thiepval, enemy air activity, the entrance into Peronne (March 1917), his posting to Italy (November 1917) and experience of mountain warfare, Armistice celebrations and his demobilisation (February 1919).
